Aklan executives are heavily negotiating the possibility of opening Boracay for other tourists in different regions.
The tropical island was reopened last June 16 but only for residents of Western Visayas.
Local officials from the province are positively certain about the health protocols they have put in place and are eager to show its effectiveness for a limited reopening.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat stated that she deeply respects the passion of the local officials.
“In two weeks we will talk to them again, and we will decide and they will maybe give us a recommendation if they are open to opening it up to other places that are also under modified GCQ (general community quarantine)”, Puyat said in an interview with ABS-CBN on Thursday.
The Boracay Interagency Task Force publicly denounced the entry of a group of travelers to Boracay last June 12 when the island was not officially open for tourists.
They have also applauded the Provincial Government of Aklan and the LGU of Malay for creating and implementing effective health and safety guidelines for tourists.
