The Redmi Note 9 Pro is one of the most recent releases from Chinese Brand Xiaomi. It was designed to bring reliable performance and decent specs on a budget.

Priced locally at 13,990 pesos (approximately 283 US dollars) and with online deals left and right, this can be a real winner for the smart Pinoy buyer. It is available in 4 colors: Aurora Blue, Tropical Green, Glacier White, and Interstellar Gray with 64gb and 128gb storage configurations.

Let’s start with the build. Xiaomi did not skimp on build quality. It has Gorilla Glass 5 front and back on a very solid frame that holds the side-mounted fingerprint scanner. There are no creaks or gaps and everything feels sturdy. I especially like the fact that even though it’s glass, the finish is not as glossy as other phones. It can still be a lot to maneuver one-handed; but which phone isn’t these days right?

It feels much better though than others on its price point. Xiaomi also threw in a 5020 MAH Battery with 18 Watt Fast Charging via USB Type C and the unit came with a 33W charger. Xiaomi claims up to 50% charge in 30 minutes.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also has P21 Splash-Proof nano-coating for those light spills and splashes. Though not completely waterproof, this is a welcome added protection for a device on this price.

This is not the thinnest nor the lightest device out there but that is a good thing. It just screams quality. Couple that with Dual SIM capability and expandable storage, we just might have a total winner here. Oh, and Xiaomi did not forget to include a headphone jack.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is not just about the looks, it has the internals to match.

It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G and an octa-core CPU. Together with an Adreno 618 GPU, it flies through day-to-day tasks and is a very capable gaming device. You can run most games on HD quality without a hiccup and the speakers are good enough to make the gaming experience immersive. The connection to wi-fi is also very reliable.

All this horsepower is not lost on the fact that you can enjoy it on a 6.67 inch IPS LCD Display with 1080 x 2400 pixels at 395 ppi. Outdoors, you are all good with 450 Nits of brightness. The screen colors pop and with a very loud bottom firing speaker, this phone is perfect for watching YouTube or binging on your favorite Netflix shows. It also has a punch-hole camera that can also be used for the Face Unlock feature.

One of the main upgrades of the Pro version from the Redmi Note 9s is on the camera front. The Pro has a 64MP Main camera as compared to 48MP on the latter. It also has an 8MP Ultrawide, a 5MP Macro and a 2MP Depth sensor. Android has countless camera apps that can take advantage of this hardware but the main camera itself is simple and fluid to use. Videos can be shot as high as 4k at 30 FPS to as low as 720p. On the Front, you can expect Social Media perfect shots from the 16 MP shooter that can also record 1080p videos at 30 Frames Per Sec.

On paper, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, while not a beast, can still roar. For those who want a capable daily driver without breaking the bank, this is an absolute option.
