Zone 15 declared grand champion in Caloocan City’s online caroling contest

CALOOCAN CITY Councilor Orvince Howard A. Hernandez on Monday announced that group representing Zone 15 stood out the best and was declared champion in the grand finals of the first ever “PASKO-COVIDEO Christmas Carol Competition” online caroling contest in the city on Sunday night, December 20.

“I am happy to announce that the grand champion is ‘Sona Kinse’ of Zone 15 garnering a total score of 94.8 percent and receiving Php50,000. Other winners are ‘The STREETS’ of Zone 6 as 1st placer garnering a total score of 88 percent and receiving Php30,000, ‘Trese Representantes’ of Zone 13 as 2nd placer garnering a total score of 83.6 percent and receiving Php20,000, “The CAROLERS” of Zone 12 as 3rd placer garnering a total score of 80.4 percent and receiving Php15,000, and ‘NXT Ang Probinsyano’ of Zone 9 as 4th placer garnering a total score of 76.8 percent and receiving Php10,000. ‘yung mga grupo na hindi nakapasok sa grand finals ay mayroon ding Php5,000 each,” Hernandez said.

During the grand finals night live via livestream on Facebook page (Caloocan SK Federation) of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Caloocan City with 7,000 viewers and counting, Hernandez also gave cash prizes to winners of raffle contest and copper masks and Ever Bilena beauty products for winners of games.

Maraming Salamat po sa inyong lahat,” Hernandez, president of the federation, said.

He said that in the competition, the youth of Caloocan City was able to show its strong character as a resilient sector in the face of challenges whether COVID-19 or any other problems.

“Napatunayan ng ating mga participants na bagama’t may COVID-19, hindi hadlang ang COVID-19 para maipakita ang tunay na diwa ng sama-sama at pagkakaisa tungo sa iisang tema, at iyan po ay ang ipagdiriwang ang tradisyunal na kantahan tuwing sasapit po ang araw ng Pasko,” Hernandez said in his welcome remarks during the grand finals night.

The “PASKCOVIDEO Christmas Carol Competition” was spearheaded this year by Hernandez and the SK federation in partnership with the Caloocan Cultural and Tourism Foundation and with the cooperation of zone leaders as an alternative to the traditional house-to-house caroling, which has been prohibited because of the pandemic.

Caloocan City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan has expressed his congratulations to Hernandez and the organizers that made the project a rousing success.

Hernandez expressed gratitude to Malapitan, officials and staff of the city government, and all individuals and groups who supported and made the project a successful, enjoyable, and safe activity.
