The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) signed a Usufruct Agreement with the Municipal Government of Tanay, Rizal for the use of a 10- hectare land for the development of Tanay-PDEA Forest Park and establishment of PDEA Academy.
In a ceremony held today (March 10, 2021) at the 3rd Floor Activity Area, Tanay Municipal Hall, M.H. Del Pilar, Barangay Plaza Aldea, Tanay, Rizal, a Usufruct Agreement was formally signed by PDEA Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva and Honorable Rex Manuel C. Tanjuatco, Municipal Mayor of Tanay.
“The municipality of Tanay is the absolute and registered owner of a 123-hectares of land located in Sitio Tablon, Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, by which the 10-hectare land is part of it,” Villanueva said.
Pursuant to Sangguniang Resolution No. 193, Series of 2020, the local government of Tanay has allowed PDEA to use the 10-hectare land for the development of Tanay-PDEA Forest Park and relocation site of the PDEA Academy.
According to Villanueva, the development of a forest park is a joint undertaking between the LGU of Tanay and PDEA as contribution to the country’s National Greening Program (NGP), a massive forest-rehabilitation initiative of the government. “In recent years, regular tree-planting activities were held in the area,” he added.
Part of the land will also serve as a new home of PDEA Academy which is, for the longest time, is temporarily situated inside Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda, Barangay Tartaria, Silang, Cavite.
Under the agreement, the LGU of Tanay as the landowner, will allow PDEA to use the property under usufruct for a period of 50 years, subject to renewal of another 50 years upon mutual agreement of the parties.
“We need more forest parks and green spaces, most especially in urban areas. Going green is essential to mitigate the effects of global change and help protect the environment,” Villanueva said, adding that the color green besides symbolizing life, has been the hue of PDEA’s identity ever since.
“Having a place [PDEA Academy] of our own where well-trained and highly-capable agents are made, has always been a dream. My sincerest thanks to the LGU of Tanay for turning that dream into a reality,” the PDEA chief said.
